UHNW & Institutional Investment Wealth Advisor

Rochester, NY

Senior Investment Advisor — UHNW & Institutional Clients

Hybrid | Rochester, NY Area

A growing independent investment advisory firm is seeking a senior, client-facing advisor to serve ultra-high-net-worth families, business owners, and select institutional clients, including endowments and foundations.

This is a relationship-driven advisory role for someone who combines strong investment judgment with the ability to earn trust, lead complex client conversations, and develop new business. This is not a portfolio-management, investment-research, or administrative role.

How You’ll Spend Your Time

40% — Relationship Development & Business Growth

  • Partner with senior advisors and marketing to turn the firm’s brand, expertise, events, and market presence into new-business opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with attorneys, CPAs, trustees, and other influential referral partners.
  • Cultivate prospects, support presentations and follow-up, and help convert opportunities into long-term client relationships.
  • Create new opportunities and meetings proactively rather than relying solely on inbound referrals.
  • Build a pipeline of UHNW and institutional prospects through direct outreach, professional networks, centers of influence, board relationships, community involvement, and firm-sponsored activities.

40% — UHNW & Institutional Advisory / Client Leadership

  • Partner closely with internal investment, planning, reporting, and client-service teams while maintaining ownership of senior client relationships.
  • Serve as a primary client advisor and coordinate with attorneys, CPAs, trustees, and other external professionals.
  • Help UHNW clients navigate integrated investment, tax, estate, succession, liquidity, and wealth-transfer considerations.
  • Advise clients on investment strategy, asset allocation, governance, liquidity, spending, and long-term objectives.
  • Build trusted relationships with UHNW families, business owners, investment committees, and institutional decision-makers.

10% — Investment Knowledge & Professional Development

  • Continue developing expertise in institutional investing, wealth management, governance, and related advisory issues.
  • Participate in investment discussions and remain current on capital markets and portfolio implications.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the firm’s investment philosophy and capabilities across UHNW and institutional client segments.

10% — Leadership & Firm Development

  • Demonstrate the judgment, initiative, and leadership potential to take on broader responsibilities over time.
  • Mentor colleagues and strengthen a collaborative, growth-oriented culture.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives and represent the firm in the marketplace and community.

Ideal Background

  • 5+ years of experience in wealth management, investment advisory, institutional consulting, investment management, or a related field.
  • Experience serving UHNW families, business owners, institutional investors, or other sophisticated clients.
  • Strong investment knowledge and the ability to discuss complex portfolio topics with sophisticated audiences.
  • Proven relationship-management and business-development capability.
  • Executive presence, sound judgment, strong communication skills, and high emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to translate institutional investment disciplines into practical advice for private clients.
  • Intellectual curiosity, integrity, a collaborative style, and interest in becoming a long-term leader within the firm.

CFA, CFP, CAIA, MBA, or similar credentials are valued, but they are not a substitute for strong client-advisory, relationship-building, and business-development ability.

What Success Looks Like

  • Become a trusted advisor to sophisticated UHNW and institutional clients.
  • Build a meaningful pipeline and convert opportunities into long-term client relationships.
  • Expand the firm’s presence among UHNW and institutional audiences.
  • Bring credibility and clarity to complex investment and planning discussions.
  • Effectively leverage the firm’s investment platform, team, and intellectual capital to deliver differentiated advice.
  • Develop into a key leader supporting the firm’s long-term growth and client relationship strategy.
