Director of Strategic Finance

Austin, TX

This role is in-office in Austin, TX. You must be local or willing to re-locate.

The Director of Strategic Finance blends scrappy execution, financial modeling, traditional Finance (ledger, GAAP, revenue recognition) and strategic partnership. We're looking for a high-potential finance leader to build financial rigor from the trenches and partner with the CEO and fractional controller to prepare for a growth round of investment. This role would naturally move towards a VP / CFO position as the company hits key milestones. We are open to both a Director or someone ready for the step up into a VP role however this is a finance team of 1 as it stands today and you must be comfortable operating very hands-on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own forecasting, budgeting, and managerial accounting: Build models for territory/metro performance, waterfall forecasts, and growth targets.
  • Dive into ledgers: Spot/fix errors, recognize revenue/costs (e.g., GAAP gaps), and integrate with fractional controller for clean data flow to models.
  • Pull and analyze data: Track churn risks, service response impacts, profitability by home manager/territory, and investor KPIs—share regularly with ops/product teams.
  • Strategic flex: Format board decks, negotiate leases, send out employee W2s, support PE/VC converations

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in Strategic Finance experience with emphasis on FP&A (forecasting, financial analysis, and modeling) as well as traditional Finance (ledger work, GAAP, revenue recognition) and broader strategic business partnering.
  • Experience in similar growth-stage, fast paced, lean startup companies. We are industry agnostic.
  • Interest in a hands-on / doer role, and excited to grow in other areas of responsibility/leadership.
  • Accounting literacy: You have the ability to look at a ledger, ask the right questions and fix things where needed.
  • Technical chops: Excel wizardry; bonus for BI/data pulls (replacing ad-hoc analyst work) and tools like Metabase/AWS.
  • Mindset: Curious creator, scrappy doer, high-potential winner
  • Experience: Junior-to-mid level OK if hands-dirty (Series A/B buildouts); ops/logistics exposure ideal. PE/VC familiarity a plus
